Welcome to our Annual Career Expo

The Career Expo showcases the wide range of journalism organizations operating today – from legacy media to digital startups and national, local, and hyperlocal newsrooms. Employers get to meet Columbia Journalism School students trained in reporting and writing in all formats including video, photo, audio, and data visualizations.

Employers

Employers seek candidates to cover a range of subject areas. Organizations that attend the Expo are seeking to fill:

Students

The Career Expo is open exclusively to graduating students at Columbia Journalism School. Among the degree candidates you will meet at the Career Expo:

  • M.S. Journalism : includes Stabile Investigative, Documentary, and Visual Craft specializations
  • M.S. Data Journalism
  • M.A. Journalism: experienced journalists specializing in coverage of Arts & Culture, Business & Economics, Politics or Science.
  • Dual Degree: includes M.S. Journalism & M.S. Computer Science
  • Knight-Bagehot Fellows in Economics and Business Journalism

A virtual job fair is an online event that takes place on a specific day and time to allow employers and job seekers to interact in a virtual environment, using chat rooms and other web-based tools to converse and exchange information. Each organization has its own booth, and you can virtually visit each one of them to find job openings prior to and during the event. Employers can also schedule live webinars and roundtable conversations during the event.

Yes.
Yes! We have encouraged organizations to be online as much of the event as possible, but times may vary based on representatives’ availability. We encourage student attendees to dedicate a specific time period to attending the fair but if you need to leave for a while and come back, that’s okay! Make sure to keep track of any scheduled chat times with specific organizations.
No, you do not need to download or install any software to participate. You only need to have access to the internet.
Yes, information students share during registration is accessible online by these organizations for 30 days following the event and via an Excel file beyond 30 days, including the option to export or view electronic resumes (if students choose to upload theirs).
